690 Assessment of pain, pruritus, and quality of life in persons with keloids

Keloids are the result of an aberrant wound healing response that leads to scar tissue expanding above and beyond boundaries original cutaneous injury. An estimated 2-4% population has keloids, with persons color having increased predisposition. Besides being cosmetically disfiguring, keloids can be both painful pruritic, significantly affecting patients’ quality life (QoL). Our aim was assess extent which these keloid-associated symptoms (pain pruritus) affect QoL. We conducted a cross-sectional survey cohort patients enrolled in keloid registry. 64 participants 27 controls were included study. Participants completed general health related QoL instrument (Short Form- 36), skin specific questionnaire (Dermatology Life Quality Index). Pain pruritus Visual Analog Scales (VAS) utilized severity pain experienced their keloids. Compared controls, those had decreased life. 30 (47%) reported moderate or greater effect on life, expressed as DLQI score >5. There moderately positive correlation between pruritis VAS scores Furthermore, who took oral pentoxifylline monotherapy for 5 weeks showed improvement pain, compared baseline, suggesting improves pruritus.
